FAQ

Where did hummus originate?

Chickpeas were and still are in abundant, and commonly consumed in the Middle East. In fact, the word hummus means chickpea in Arabic. Historical documents show a dish, very similar to the hummus we eat today, being consumed in Cairo in the 13th century. But that doesn't stop other areas from continuing to claim hummus as their own.

Why is Hummus considered healthy?

Hummus is high in several important nutrients, including fiber and protein. A 2016 study explains that people who eat chickpeas or hummus eat more fiber, unsaturated fat, antioxidant vitamins, magnesium, potassium, and iron.

Research has linked hummus and its ingredients to a variety of impressive health benefits, including helping fight inflammation, improving blood sugar control, better digestive health, lower heart disease risk and weight loss.

What Oil do we use in our hummus?

Authentic hummus is always made with olive oil, our hummus is made using Olive Pomace Oil. Olive pomace oil is 80 percent monounsaturated that can lower cholesterol levels. It is also rich in antioxidants that promote heart health and prevent many lifestyle diseases, making it a healthy choice.

Do we add any preservatives, additives & emulsifiers

Our hummus is free of all chemical based ingredients that are toxic to the body. It is made without any additives or emulsifiers and hence is preservative free

 What is transfat?

Trans fat is a type of dietary fat that is the worst of all the fats for your health. Trans fats are made when food makers turn liquid oils into solid fats, like shortening or margarine. It can be found in many fried, "fast" packaged, or processed foods.

Why is zero transfat good?

Eating foods with trans fat (or trans fatty acids) raises low-density lipoprotein (“bad” cholesterol), lowers your high-density lipoprotein (“good” cholesterol), and is linked to heart disease. Trans fat provides no health benefit and there's no safe level of eating trans fat.

How does our hummus last long without preservatives?

One of the promises we make to our community is we will never use any preservatives or artificial ingredients in any of our products. The role of preservatives in food is to stop the processes of oxidation and bacterial growth. You might be thinking that’s a good thing, but once you consider what chemical preservatives can do to your body, you may decide to avoid them in your diet. Studies have shown that certain chemical preservatives may be harmful to your intestinal tract because they can kill the “good bacteria” needed for digestion and nutrient absorption. As an alternative to chemical preservatives, we control the food safety of our hummus using a unique, scientifically backed production technique.
